The Rainbow Dragon Story Monster Approved edition by Jeff Hopp Ann Videan Children eBooks Reviews
The Rainbow Dragon by Jeff Hopp brings a new view of the relationship between children and dragons. Most children are fascinated with dragons at one point of their lives, but this book brings out how a young dragon is intrigued with meeting a child. The young dragon, Redtail Smalltooth, listens to his grandfather’s stories of children and wonders at what magical creatures they would be. He even pretends to have an imaginary child friend with a kite.
This all changes one day when Redtail touches the rainbow at the end of the valley, and a child really does appear. Harold teaches Redtail how to play with his kite. At the end of the day they plan to play together again, on the other side of the rainbow.
After I read this story to my 3rd grader he told me his favorite part was the fireballs and the sparks that the dragons blew through their nose.
There are so many inventive touches in this sweet story about a young dragon. The vivid illustrations are sure to spark a child's imagination, with dragons blowing smoke and fireballs through their noses! Highly recommend.
Have you ever started reading a book thinking, 'Oh, well, I may not like it but I'll give it a try,' then quickly found yourself sucked into the story and thinking, 'Oh my god, this is so good!' That was my experience with The Rainbow Dragon. It made me smile and the artwork was beautiful and colorful. This is a cute little storybook for pre-scholars.
This book is a wonderful page-turner for young readers. It's got all the elements of a great fantasy, rendered in a fresh, alluring, well-crafted world, with sympathetic characters and tons of mystery.
The Rainbow Dragon is a middle-grade fantastic that readers will find near impossible to put down. With appealing characters and imaginative world-building that is sheer perfection. There's also a mystery woven throughout and the pacing is great- it certainly kept me turning the pages.
I think it would be a great addition to any elementary and middle school library. It will be the ideal present for my goddaughter’s birthday. I can't recommend this book highly enough. Come spring time, get a copy. You'll thank me for it!
Redtail Smalltooth is a Dragon who lives in the valley of the rainbows. He is the main character in this enchanting children’s book. Longing for the times when magical children roamed through their valley to fly kites and drink tea with dragons, Redtail does not care for the wondrous things that his fellow dragons do and instead imagines himself a new friend who is a child. One day, Redtail encounters a real child and the ensuing friendship is sweet and lovely to read about.
My daughter loved this book. She has asked for me to read it to her during the day as well as bedtimes and cannot seem to get enough of all the different dragons and their unique talents. I think this book is great for young kids as they can read along with an adult, or be read to and each time you read you discover something new within the story.
Arizona author/artist/musician Jeff Hopp is a creator of fine art paintings, Album/CD covers, event posters, graphic novels, children's books, and space rock music. He combines his many talents in this charming children’s book THE RAINBOW DRAGON. His previously published books include THE WHITE WIZARD TALES OF SCIENCE FICTION AND IMAGINATION and THREE DREAMS - WHERE THE WILD THINGS ROCK, A DAY AT THE BEACH WITH PICASSO, and THE KING WHO STOLE. After this reader reviewed this last book, the following comments were made ‘Arizona artist and author Jeff Hopp uses the label of being a psychedelic artist whose work has a narrative quality that leads viewers into his unique visionary universe. Jeff's award winning art has been featured in fine art galleries, artist trade shows, raves, and charity events around the world and his visionary psychedelic art has been sold in over 30 countries. Each of these stories is not only well conceived, but the art is stunning and if anyone can draw the attention of serious art critics and audiences alike it is most assuredly Jeff Hopp. This is a `must own' art book for the library.’
And two years later, here is Jeff Hopp, shining again. Beautifully illustrated, Jeff introduces us to the Valley of the Rainbow where a little dragon named Redtail Smalltooth lives. Though happy, Redtail knows only dragons who fly and blow smoke from their noses – and even fireballs into the night sky. Redtail is unimpressed, doesn’t care to learn the silly tricks but longs for he days of old that his grandfather shares on his visits to Rainbow Valley, days when children lived in the valley doing such magical things as flying kites and sipping tea. Redtail creates and imaginary child friend. Out for a walk flying his imaginary kite, Redtail encounters a rainbow and when he touches it a child’s face appears! The child named Harold steps out of the rainbow and Redtail and the Harold banter about who is the more magical – children or dragons. The two play with a kite and then being tired, they go home. Redtail is happy as he goes to bed, sharing with his mother that he met a child. Chuckling at Redtail’s imagination mother turns out the light and in the corner is a strange bird…the kite Redtail shared with his ‘imaginary friend’.
Not only is the story fun for children, but it also encourages imagination and learning about others and appreciating the good things we have. Excellent on every level - And another artistic success for Jeff Hopp. Grady Harp, May 16
This book will certainly grab the attention of a young reader. From the very colorful illustrations to the fun characters. What child does not love dragons? The story is great and easy to read. I purchased this book and plan to buy more for gifts. Love it!
